Who are Blind in Business?
Blind in Business is a small charity with five staff based in the city of London. They help young blind students develop the confidence to think about further education.
How does Blind in Business use ICT?
Students are helped to construct, implement and develop a personal action plan and introduced to the latest specialist ICT technology. Blind in Business believe in technology and how it can be used to combat barriers to education and employment.
Clarifeye, who are specialists in web-design, consulted with us on how to ensure the site was accessible. It was then designed with inclusion in mind as well as usability, brand and information.
The site has introduced "viewing options" and a choice of "colour schemes" to make is more accessible and it still maintains its simple look and feel and structure.
What difference has ICT made?
The existing website wasn't accessible to all and therefore needed to undergo redevelopment so it could be enjoyed by everyone regardless of visual impairment.
Since its redevelopment the number of hits has risen from between 250,000 to 320,000 hits a year, this is double the amount of visitors before the redevelopment. Over 50% of new work now comes through the website.
Blind in business only spent £1000 on their website.
